Food
I tried to keep things medivial and also stick to my diet (they ate a lot of fatty foods according to my research!). I wasn't about to make a peacock pie....gross!!!
We ended up having beef and vegetable stew (I used the weight watchers recipe) and fresh baked bread that we ate with our hands. My son loved that he could pull pieces off and didn't have to use silverware. The stew was really good - even my picky husband gave it the thumbs up!
For drinks we had ginger ALE and root BEER.
We also had a fruit salad for dessert.
Crafts
For our first craft, we made our own shields/coat of arms. I wanted to make them out of cardboard for our swordfight we were going to have later, but I forgot to pick some up, so these were just decorative paper ones. I found the templates online, and we each picked our favorite and decorated them.
Then we made this little owl craft from oriental trading company --- it doesn't look exactly like Archmedies, but we call him that anyways.
Activies
What else would a 7 year old boy like to do than swordfight? We had competitions with our nerf swords --- I lost of course, but that was to be expected.
We also drew little toothpick swords out of a styrophome stone that each had a number on it. The number was our name for the sword fights ---
1. Sir Kull of Shapes
2. Sir Ver of Restaruants
3. Sir Prize
4. Sir Vivor of Crash
5. Sir Junn of E.R.
6. Sir Kuss (Circus)
We also read a few books about squirrels, fish & birds since Merlin & Wart turn into those animals in the movie. Then we talked about which one we'd rather be, and why. Which naturally turned into a nice, old fashioned wizard's duel. Starting with my son, we would pick an animal and try to beat it with something else. This ended in lots of laughs, and my husband becoming the meteor that killed all dinosaurs. It's fun to see what everyone comes up with!
Bringing it back to DisneyWorld
All in all, it was a fun day. Since we are doing the movie days as a sort of countdown until we can get back to DisneyWorld, we recalled when we were waiting our turn for my son to pull the sword out of the stone, and a little boy cut in front of him and pulled it out and got to be "King for the Day". Thankfully, my son was only 3, so he didn't notice, or that could have been a lot of tears! A nice reminder to wait your turn :)
